Economy
Palau's economy consists of tourism and other services such as trade, subsistence agriculture, and fishing. Government is a major employer of the work force relying on financial assistance from the US under the Compact of Free Association (Compact) with the US. The GDP per capita-$10,500 (2011 est.) while in the U.S. it is $48,112. Unemployment is at 4.2% (2005 est.) which is much better in comparison with the United States at 7.7%.
