Defense is the responsibility of the US; under a Compact of Free Association between Palau and the US, the US military is granted access to the islands for 50 years, but it has not stationed any military forces there (2008)
The Palau military standings are far different than that of the United States. In the U.S we have a standing military force with many branches and different parts. We also have far greater numbers of men and women fit for military service and different age limits and levels were you can apply and or be drafted into the military.
